About Ida Ougerd Village

Ida Ougourd is a Haouzian tribe belonging to the Haouza tribal confederation, situated at the northernmost point of the Haouza territories. Known as the gateway to the Haouza tribes, it is bordered to the south by the tribes of Ait Nkaf and Ait Idawsarn, and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean.

This region is home to the city of Essaouira, which also serves as its capital. Ida Ougourd is particularly notable for its proximity to an ancient city located on its northern coastline, referred to as "Old Essaouira." This historic site is believed to have been established by the kings of Haouza prior to the advent of Islam. The remnants of the settlement include sugar mills built by the Saadian dynasty on the northern bank of Oued El Qasb (Qasb River), where sugarcane cultivation flourished during their reign.

Ida Ougourd, located just 26 kilometers from Essaouira, is a captivating destination for those interested in history, culture, and the enduring legacy of Morocco's past.
